Serving/Volunteering

Believers should serve. It's what our Lord modeled and told us to do. "Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve,  and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28 NIV). Jesus modeled serving others. Our greatest joys in life will come not from being served, but in serving others around us. Serving is the heartbeat of volunteering.

Opportunities abound to volunteer and serve through FBC, both inside the church as well as outside within our community. We've listed a few here, but we'll be happy to help you find a meaningful place to serve. Contact Keith for assistance.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves."- Philippians 2:3 (NIV)

  • Welcome Ministry

A great place to get to know people, and all you have to do is smile and be nice. Our Welcome Ministry includes parking lot and door greeters who welcome and assist arriving guests and members. It also includes those who serve at our Welcome Center to assist guests with informational needs and locating Sunday School and LIFE Groups.

  • Worship Technology Ministry

Each of our morning worship services needs a media technology team to help make it happen. Sound, computer graphics, and our Livestream broadcasts all require operators. We'll even train you! Come join our Worship Media Team.

  • TBM Disaster Relief Chainsaw Team

When disaster strikes, someone needs to respond--in the love of Jesus Christ. Texas Baptist Men maintain numerous Disaster Relief Teams. Our church and area Kauf-Van Association has a chainsaw response team that helps to take down and cut up trees after tornadoes, hurricanes, wild fires, and other disasters. And they do lots of other projects as well to help people in need.

  • Children's Ministry

Children are precious to God and our Lord Jesus, so they must be precious to us as well. We have a variety of ministries for children that need leadership and support personnel. These include Awana on Wednesday evenings, Bible Drill and Children's Choir on Sunday evenings, VBS, Preteen camp, Sunday School and more. Make a difference in the life of a child. Various student ministries and activities offer opportunities to serve our young people. Sunday School, small group discipleship studies, Wednesday evening Resurgence worship, summer camps, and lots of activities all offer a chance to get involved. Contact Blake for more information.

  • Labor For Your Neighbor

Labor For Your Neighbor is an intentional effort on behalf of churches in our community to serve and help others in our community. While we celebrate a citywide LFYN day each October in which churches band together to do many projects in a week, there are other LFYN projects that go on all year long. From lawn and tree work, to house cleaning, moving, home repairs, painting, wheel chair ramps and more--there  are lots of opportunities to get involved.

  • Terrell ISD/Area Schools

Schools are the largest mission fields in our community. So they provide a great place to volunteer and get involved serving others. There are lots of varied opportunities, from teacher projects, to in-classroom support and activities with children, to support for special events--there is something for everybody. Take advantage of our FBC partnership with J. W. Long Elementary through LEAP (Long Elementary Academic Partnership) or volunteer at the school of your choice. (Background check and training required through TISD.)

  • friends in touch (fit)

FIT is a ministry within our church that reaches out to people who are not able to get out, such as those who are homebound or nursing home residents. Precious relationships form as these visitors spend time talking, doing Bible studies, working on projects or whatever is of interest to the person being visited. This is a very active group. You will be greatly blessed by being part.

  • Meals-on-wheels delivery

Meals On Wheels is a great community outreach. This program is under the direction of Kaufman County Senior Citizens Services, Inc. It involves delivering meals to shut-ins and people in need within our community. Routes typically include around a dozen deliveries. Options to help deliver include daily, weekly, or even monthly.

To learn more about Meals On Wheels contact Austin Frank within FBC, or contact the Terrell Senior Center Site Director, Kathy Lassiter, at 972-563-6399.

  • Heather lane kids' club

  • Prayer room/prayer warrior

Serve on our prayer team to intercede before the Lord on behalf of others, our church, community, and nation. Whether in the prayer room, at home, or wherever you choose to pray, we need you. Prayer lists are available or pray on your own.

  • upward sports

Upward Sports uses athletics to create opportunities to be intentional about sharing our faith. Various volunteer roles exist for our Upward basketball and cheerleading season each January-February. Roles include coaches, referees, clock operators, pre-game announcers, prayer teams and more. We also have opportunities to share devotionals or testimonies during halftime of games. So you can be very involved, or just participate here and there.
